28th Amendment

Okay, so here is my solution to the debacle we call congress. Amendment XXVIII Reformation of Campaign Finance and Elected Office. Section 1 Corporations, business, unions and other equivalent organizations are not people. As such, they do not enjoy the rigthts, freedoms and protections enumerated in the Constitution of the United States of America as they are reserved solely for the people. Section 2 Any person seeking elected office shall only receive financing, either direct or indirect, from a person. Any contribution to a campaign shall not exceed the equivalent of ten thousand dollars per person per election cycle. Section 3 Any person duly elected to federal, state or municipal office is required to take an oath of office. Said oath much include: "I will properly execute the duties and responsibilities vested in me as ..." and "I do solemnly affirm to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth." Section 4 Violations of Sec...

Get Weather on Google Maps.

Did you know that Google Maps has a layer that lets you check the weather?  And it works anywhere in the world.  Yes, Google has teamed up with The Weather Channel ( http://www.weather.com/ ) to bring you the weather. Weather Layer In the upper right-hand corner you will find the map selector: Earth (Google Earth) and Satellite (Basic Map).  Choose Satellite and you'll get a drop-down menu with a list of the various layers you can activate.  Click on Weather and you'll be presented with a cloud covered map and weather conditions. Zoom Slider Setting the zoom slider towards the middle will get you a birds-eye view of the City-level and this is where the weather information kicks in.  On the left is a panel with the current conditions for other locations in the immediate vicinity, based on the slider level. 4-day Forecast Clicking on a city will cause a bubble pop-up to open with the current conditions and a 4-day forcast for the choosen l...

Google is good, but who knows it?

Alright, so I saw this and found out there is this whole "Technology-driven Philanthropy" thing that Google is into here: www.google.org Absolutely fantastic. Google is fantastic with aggregating information for various purposes. This is the best one yet. Social Media has become a significant resource for people to get information they need ... fast. Recently, Twitter and CNN brought you the inside look at Lybia when other sources couldn't get a report out. Now, it's your turn G+. This is the chance for G+ to shine and make its mark on the social media landscape. Your Irene information ( http://crisislanding.appspot.com/ ) is beautiful (and now I know my parents are okay because of it. Thank you.) However, for all the good you do how many know about it? You guys really, REALLY need fire whomever is running your PR department and get your machine working. There is soooo much that you guys do that NO ONE knows about. Specifically, with the above, if I were your P...

The Review Gap

Okay so its been a turbulent week and Google has been changing their DOM ( Document Object Model ) faster than a model changes clothes.   What has this meant?   Your favorite extensions have been on again off again; with many developers pushing out updates multiple times.  Now, it looks like things have settled for a while (cross fingers).  But, I'm sure somewhere down the line Google will want to change their dress again.  So for now I'll get back to reviews while there is a modicum of stability.

Facebook privacy takes another hit.

Yet again, another privacy issue with Facebook with their new Facebook Messenger app. Facebook privacy team is fighting hard to make their users unsafe. You all should stop installing it and start removing it as soon as possible. Facebook's new Messenger service steals all your friends numbers on your phone and stores it on their internal system. And guess what ... you cannot export those numbers out of there. If you still have a Facebook account, you should remove your number from your profile, or even better, boycott it until they allow you to control the data you provide it. Tom A: Lots of people have been alerting me that Facebook just launched a feature that sucks the mobile phone numbers from your phone into your Facebook account. Some have said it's showing you the phone numbers of all your Facebook friends. At first I didn't see it, and I thought it was just showing me the phone numbers of Facebook friends have chosen to share. (Like its done for years) But, L...

Corporate Arrogance

Okay, so I found out last night that a group of engineers and designers have broken off from OpenOffice.org (an Oracle project) to form a new group called The Document Foundation .  They have created another version of the Freeware ... LibreOffice. Being a good bunch of folks, ."..Oracle was invited to become a member of the Document Foundation, and was asked to donate the OpenOffice.org brand to the project ...  Oracle instead rejected the project and demanded that all members of the OpenOffice.org board involved with it step down."  This is corporate arrogance. As a result, I have removed OpenOffice from all our systems and replaced them with LibreOffice. When you uninstall OpenOffice they will ask you to take a brief (and it really is brief, 4 questions) survey.  The last question asks for additional information.  Take the above "Oracle ... down." and put it there.  Hopefully (but doubtfully), they will realize their mistake.  Either way, they...

Disappoint abounds.

Okay so I applied for a position with startup last week.  I had, what I thought to be a VERY good phone interview and got an indication that I would be called in for a face-to-face this week.  I haven't heard anything yet.  I think they may be concerned about my absence from the workforce.  Yet, THAT is the very reason they should call me in for the interview. Think about it.  It is the exact same thing as a woman leaving her career to raise he newborn until they are in school.  That's what, five years?  Yes, a lot changes over the years; especially in human resources (gods know Washington won't rest).  But, do you pass her 12 years of HR experience and 10 years of startup experience by because you are afraid she won't fit the bill?  NO, you call her in and question her. So why don't these guys see that? Disappointment abounds.
